Arden's Wake: The Prologue

Arden's Wake: The Prologue

Looking around Tribeca Film Festival 2017, it's clear the art of storytelling is alive and well. Everywhere we look, technologies provide novel techniques to extend the human experience beyond the traditional channels of TV, cinema or theatre. We at Penrose are incredibly honored to return to the Tribeca Film Festival again this year to unveil the preview of our third VR feature piece, Arden's Wake: The Prologue.

Today Penrose takes another step in advancing VR technology and the art of storytelling in this new medium as we introduce Arden's Wake, a thrilling journey of family history and self-discovery. The story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world, where the water levels have risen, and a young woman and her father live in a lighthouse atop an endless sea. When her father disappears, she descends into a world previously forbidden to her.

Although this piece is the first installment of a larger series, episodic content is not new to us at Penrose, nor is the use of proprietary technology and tools that allow us to create these captivating experiences. One of the tools that has proven immeasurably valuable to us in the development of Arden's Wake is something we call Maestro.

Maestro is a social VR creation tool that allows us to collaborate inside a fully virtual space. With our Maestro platform , we dive into VR every day where we can have direct social interactions to create and review our work with unprecedented perspective. As we continue to innovate in VR content creation and storytelling everyday, so too must we advance our technology. We’re coming up with new features of the tool every day, and can’t wait to see what we can do next.

Run time for Arden's Wake is approximately 15 minutes, and will be available later this year on a variety of VR platforms.
