As a company, we’re proud and fortunate to work with a diverse array of world-class talent, which has enabled us to make strides in VR storytelling - both as a studio and for the industry. We’ve done that with each major release to-date. With The Rose & I in 2015, we released our first VR story. With Allumette, we launched the longest VR film to-date. With Arden’s Wake, we created our project using our in-house native VR creation tool Maestro and won the first Lion for Best VR awarded at the Venice Film Festival. In our second installment of the Arden’s Wake franchise, we are bridging Hollywood with augmented and virtual reality.
Arden's Wake: The Prologue
Looking around Tribeca Film Festival 2017, it's clear the art of storytelling is alive and well. Everywhere we look, technologies provide novel techniques to extend the human experience beyond the traditional channels of TV, cinema or theatre. We at Penrose are incredibly honored to return to the Tribeca Film Festival again this year to participate in the Virtual Arcade to unveil the preview of our third feature piece, Arden's Wake: The Prologue.
Introducing Allumette
It’s a bit of an accident the way Penrose’s next VR movie came to be named. Allumette means “matchstick” in French, and it was the temporary name for the title character in a private screenplay that was not intended to be seen by the outside world. Gradually the name grew on us, and as Allumette’s world came to be built around her in VR, so the name stuck. Allumette.
Today, we’re happy to announce Penrose’s next VR movie Allumette. We’re screening an early VR trailer to select audiences, and the full movie is set to premiere later this year.
"The Rose And I" at Sundance 2016
We’re thrilled to announce that Penrose’s VR film “The Rose And I”, built with Unreal Engine 4, will make its World Premiere in the New Frontier section at the Sundance Film Festival 2016. A mobile VR preview of this film, titled “Rosebud”, can be seen in Penrose’s ROSE app, which will be released today for the Gear VR in the Oculus Store.
